Pune has witnessed a significant enforcement action following a crackdown on a restaurant located along Mhalunge-Nande Road for violating its legally permitted operating hours. The restaurant, known for its lively ambiance and late-night operations, was found to be running well beyond the stipulated closing time of 1.30 am, prompting swift action from the Pimpri Chinchwad police. In a late-night raid on Sunday, authorities seized a music system, several hookah pots, and other materials worth a staggering ₹10 lakh.

The raid was launched after the police received credible information about the restaurant’s violation of the operating time. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vishal Gaikwad, confirmed that a team of officers led by Assistant Police Inspector Prasad Gajjewar and Sub-Inspector Tejasvi Jadhav responded promptly. Upon reaching the restaurant at approximately 2:50 am, the police were met with resistance from the bouncers, who tried to obstruct their entry. Despite these efforts, the officers entered the premises, finding over 150 patrons still on-site, amidst loud music, food, and liquor being served.

Flouting the Law: The Restaurant’s Actions and Impact

The restaurant’s decision to defy established closing times represents a breach of both public order and safety protocols designed to regulate the hospitality industry. Not only were the operating hours violated, but the establishment was also found to be engaging in other unlawful practices, including the illegal service of hookah. Authorities discovered 24 hookah pots hidden away in a locked room, highlighting the restaurant’s blatant disregard for public health and safety guidelines. The situation prompted the seizure of these illegal items, along with a large music system, marking a significant victory for the local authorities in their fight against unlawful commercial practices.

The police registered a case against the restaurant’s two owners, its manager, and four bouncers under sections 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 223 (disobedience to orders promulgated by public servant) of the Bombay Police Act. The seized goods were valued at ₹10 lakh, underscoring the scale of the illegal operation. This raid serves as a critical reminder of the importance of adherence to local laws and the role of authorities in maintaining public order in urban spaces.
