MSRDC’s Samruddhi Mahamarg Sees ₹1,226 Crore Toll Revenue in 3 Years

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced a toll revenue of ₹1,226 crore from the 1.7 crore vehicles that have traveled on the Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (HBTMSM) since its inauguration. This revenue has been collected over the past three years, with the expressway significantly contributing to both travel convenience and Maharashtra’s economic growth.

The expressway, which covers a 701-km stretch, sees an average daily traffic of about 20,000 cars, 1,000 light commercial vehicles (LCVs), 3,100 buses and trucks, 900 three-axle vehicles, and 4,000 four-to-six-axle vehicles, according to a senior MSRDC official. While the toll revenue has been substantial, the official noted that these figures are expected to increase once the remaining stretch of the expressway becomes operational. The expressway, aimed at reducing travel time and promoting socio-economic development in Maharashtra, has been opened in phases. The first phase, covering 625 kilometers from Nagpur to Shirdi, was inaugurated in December 2022. The second phase, a 105-km stretch from Shirdi to Bharvir, became operational in May 2023. The final 76 km stretch, connecting Aamne in Bhiwandi to Bharvir, is expected to be fully operational by March 2025.

A critical 4.5 km section between Amane and Shangri La Resort on the old Mumbai-Nashik Highway is still under construction but is expected to be completed soon, as part of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently reviewed the pending works and directed authorities to expedite the completion of the final stretch, emphasizing the importance of the expressway in enhancing connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur. To further enhance commuter experience, MSRDC is developing 10 public utility areas along the expressway. These areas will feature amenities like petrol pumps, eateries, and rest stops. Designed for high-speed travel, with a design speed of up to 150 km/h, the expressway incorporates state-of-the-art infrastructure, including wildlife underpasses, flyovers, and pedestrian crossings, ensuring both safety and efficiency for travelers.
