Commuters and activists have pointed out that while the Metro 2A and seven lines may be running faster and saving time, due to the lack of last-mile connectivity at some of the destination stations, passengers are left stranded.
Said transport expert Vivek Pai, “Metro ridership would suffer due to last-mile connectivity becoming more expensive than the Metro itself. For example, you spend Rs 20-30 to travel in the Metro for a long distance, but after you alight at a station, you spend Rs 40-50 for an auto to travel to your final destination. Instead, there should be a continuous flow of share autos at affordable rates or electric AC Midi buses just below the Metro stations. ”
Metropolitan commissioner SVR Srinivas said they had requested the BEST to introduce more services that can help improve last-mile connectivity. So far, BEST has provided last-mile connectivity by linking Metro stations on lines 2A and 7 via 25 routes.
