Credai Joins Hands with IGBC to Build 1,000 Green Projects by 2025

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) has partnered with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to build over 1,000 certified green projects across India in the next two years and 4,000 projects by 2030. This move was announced at the Credai investiture ceremony, where Boman Irani was named the new President of Credai National for the term 2023-25.

This partnership aims to enable Credai to strengthen its capabilities and knowledge to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The initiative aligns with India’s vision of reaching net zero by 2070. Under this partnership, projects will be certified by IGBC, and developers will be encouraged to build sustainably. The projects built under this partnership will inspire real estate developers to join the green building movement.

Credai-MCHI has also announced a leadership change, with Domnic Romell becoming the President of Credai-MCHI in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Credai-MCHI has partnered with sustainability consultant ‘Smarter Dharma’ as its Sustainability Partner. Boman Irani stated that the industry was moving towards a new era of inclusive and sustainable growth, and the partnership with IGBC will enable developers to build sustainably. He added that the projects built under this partnership will be certified by IGBC and inspire thousands of real estate developers to join the Green Building movement.

The partnership between Credai and IGBC is set to usher in a new era of green development, inspiring thousands of real estate developers as Credai spearheads a nationwide Green Building movement. As part of the association with IGBC, Credai pledges to build over 1,000 certified Green projects in the next two years across India and 4,000 projects by 2030 through the adoption of IGBC Green & Net Zero building ratings. This will mean adding over 400,000 housing units in the Green development category across the country.

Credai’s partnership with IGBC will allow developers to build better by providing the necessary know-how and strengthening capabilities. As an extension to meeting Credai’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, this will provide an impetus towards charting a roadmap for the same and aligns Credai to the country’s vision of reaching Net Zero by 2070.
