Kochi traffic restrictions will be in force from 2pm to 7pm on Sunday as the Muslim Youth League’s state conference brings a public meeting to Marine Drive and a rally from Bolgatty to the city. The restrictions will affect major roads linking Ernakulam, Vypin, the High Court area and Bolgatty during the afternoon and evening period.
The public meeting is scheduled for 5pm at Marine Drive. The rally will begin at the Goshree Junction in Bolgatty and proceed towards Marine Drive, prompting the closure or restriction of vehicle movement along several roads and junctions.
The affected stretch includes the route from Ernakulam Hospital Junction to Park Avenue Road, Shanmugham Road, Abraham Madamakkal Road, Chathyath Junction, Goshree First Bridge and Bolgatty Junction. Commuters have been advised to avoid these roads during the restriction period and use the designated diversions.
Vehicles travelling from Vypin towards Ernakulam must turn left at Bolgatty Junction and enter the city through Container Road, Cheranalloor and Edappally. Passengers travelling between Vypin and the city can also consider the Vypin–Fort Kochi ferry service, according to the route directions published in the report.
Vehicles travelling from Aluva and Kakkanad towards Vypin through the High Court side have been directed to use the Palarivattom–Edappally–Cheranalloor–Container Road route. This diversion is intended to keep traffic away from the restricted High Court, Shanmugham Road and Bolgatty corridors while the rally and public meeting are under way.
Private buses operating on the High Court–Menaka route have been instructed to avoid Banerjee Road and Shanmugham Road completely and operate through MG Road. This change will affect passengers using the central Kochi bus network during the afternoon, particularly those travelling towards the High Court and Menaka areas.
Vehicles arriving from Paravur, Kalamassery and Cheranalloor towards the High Court have also been assigned a separate diversion. Vehicles approaching through Container Road must travel via Cheranalloor, Chittoor, Aster Medcity Road, Pachalam and Mathai Manjooran Road before entering the High Court area.
The traffic plan has been issued in connection with the conference programme and the expected movement of rally participants into the Marine Drive area. Commuters making cross-city journeys during the five-hour restriction window will need to allow additional travel time and check whether their route passes through the affected junctions before starting their journey.
