Ramgarh Police Put 581 Offenders Under Digital Surveillance

Ramgarh police have created digital profiles of 581 charge-sheeted criminals and uploaded them to a district-developed monitoring portal as part of a drive to strengthen surveillance and improve crime detection. The initiative covers offenders linked to cases registered in the district between January 2021 and March 2026.

Ramgarh superintendent of police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat reviewed the initiative on Thursday and said the district had identified 1,971 charge-sheeted criminals during the period. The latest profiling drive covered nine crime categories, including Arms Act violations, extortion, narcotics, dacoity, robbery, snatching, theft and vehicle theft.

The Digital Criminal Monitoring Portal has been developed by the Ramgarh police for real-time tracking of offenders. According to Lunayat, the system brings together criminal history, verification details, addresses and modus operandi in a single record to support monitoring and crime-control operations.

Police said the profiling exercise has already led to several forms of action after verification. Proceedings under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, have been initiated against 35 criminals, while 163 people have been placed under surveillance. A further 56 names have been entered in the Goonda Register, according to the police review.

Authorities also said action had been taken against 105 offenders under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The source report did not provide further details on the specific proceedings or the individual cases covered under that provision.

The initiative gives the district police a centralised mechanism to organise information on charge-sheeted offenders and track verification outcomes. Police have not disclosed the technical architecture of the portal, the frequency of record updates, or whether the system is integrated with state-level or national crime databases.

The exercise also covers offenders associated with a range of crimes that directly affect public safety and everyday mobility, including vehicle theft, snatching, robbery and theft. By combining address and modus operandi information with criminal histories, the police intend to support field-level verification and surveillance, while the legal actions listed by the department indicate that the drive is being used alongside existing enforcement processes.

The Ramgarh police review did not specify how many arrests, fresh cases or crime detections resulted from the portal. It also did not state how often the 581 newly created profiles would be reviewed or what safeguards govern access to and correction of the records. The police said the monitoring effort would support more effective surveillance and crime control in the district.
