Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy has urged the Union government to support two major Telangana infrastructure proposals: national highway status for two regional road corridors and a Rs.45,000 crore plan to build 10 greenfield radial roads connecting Hyderabad’s existing Outer Ring Road with the proposed Regional Ring Road.
Reddy said he had raised the proposals with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, citing Telangana’s growing transport and infrastructure requirements. The proposals are intended to strengthen regional connectivity, logistics links and road infrastructure around Hyderabad and across the state.
The first request covers the Sangareddy–Narsapur–Toopran–Gajwel–Jagdevpur–Bhongir–Choutuppal corridor. The second proposed corridor would run through Choutuppal, Amangal, Shadnagar and Sangareddy. Reddy has sought national highway status for both routes, a designation that would bring them within the framework of the Union road transport and highways ministry’s national highway policy.
According to Reddy, Gadkari has informed him that the policy for declaring new national highways is currently under consultation. The proposals will be processed after the guidelines are finalised. This means neither corridor has received national highway status through the reported exchange, and the decision remains subject to the Centre’s policy process.
The second proposal involves an estimated Rs.45,000 crore investment in 10 new greenfield radial roads along Hyderabad’s metropolitan corridor. These roads would connect the city’s existing Outer Ring Road with the proposed Regional Ring Road, creating additional links between the two major orbital road systems planned around the metropolitan region.
The reported proposal places regional road connectivity at the centre of Telangana’s infrastructure requirements. The corridors named by Reddy pass through areas extending from Sangareddy in the west to Bhongir and Choutuppal in the east, and from Choutuppal through Amangal and Shadnagar back towards Sangareddy. The source report does not provide construction timelines, land-acquisition details, financing arrangements or the proposed alignment of the 10 radial roads.
Reddy said he would continue pursuing the proposals with the Union government. “Hyderabad and Telangana need stronger regional connectivity, better logistics and modern road infrastructure to sustain economic growth,” he said. He added that Telangana deserved timely decisions and the infrastructure investment required for its future.
The next formal step is the finalisation of the Centre’s guidelines for declaring new national highways. The two highway-status proposals are expected to be processed after those guidelines are issued, while the reported Rs.45,000 crore radial-road proposal remains a demand under consideration.
