Singareni Collieries Company Limited has introduced a facial recognition-based attendance system on a trial basis across mines and departments in the Kothagudem area, marking the company’s first area-wide deployment of the technology. The pilot began on Monday and is intended to make employee attendance recording more transparent.
The system is being introduced as part of Singareni’s initiative to adopt advanced technology in attendance management. According to the report, attendance was recorded without any issues on the first day of the pilot.
Biometric attendance systems are already being used at some General Manager’s offices within Singareni. The Kothagudem deployment is the first time the company has implemented the system across the mines and departments of an entire area, rather than limiting it to selected offices.
Singareni has around 40,000 employees, with approximately 1,600 working in the Kothagudem area. The company expects automated attendance recording to improve transparency in the management of employee attendance, while also promoting discipline and punctuality.
The deployment places attendance administration in a more central role within the operations of a large mining workforce. Instead of relying only on existing office-level biometric systems or conventional attendance processes, the pilot is intended to create a common technology-based system across the participating mines and departments in Kothagudem.
The report said employees expressed satisfaction with the system during its initial implementation. No operational issues were reported on the first day, although the company has not disclosed further details about the technology’s specifications, data-management arrangements or the duration of the trial.
The Kothagudem pilot is expected to be followed by an extension of the facial recognition attendance system to mines and departments in Singareni’s other areas. The company’s next steps will determine the pace and scale of the wider rollout.
