Mysuru Gets New 100-Bed Amritakripa Hospital Block

A new 100-bed block at Amritakripa Hospital in Mysuru’s Roopa Nagar is expected to add capacity to the city’s healthcare infrastructure after it was inaugurated during a programme at the Mata Amritanandamayi Math premises on Monday, according to a report by Prajavani.

Mata Amritanandamayi inaugurated the block and addressed a satsang programme organised at the math campus. The report does not specify when the new block will begin admitting patients, what medical departments it will house or whether the facility will provide any reserved or subsidised services.

In her address, Amritanandamayi spoke about the need to protect nature and said human beings should learn cooperation and coexistence. She referred to trees’ role in keeping soil and the atmosphere clean and warned against testing nature’s patience.

The event also included social-support initiatives. Amritanandamayi distributed scholarships to 50 students and sarees and financial assistance to 500 rural women through the Amrita Sahay Nidhi programme, the report said. The available account did not provide the value of the scholarships or the assistance distributed.

Mysuru MP Dr C.N. Manjunath said the ability to protect people was greater than the ability to cause harm and praised the service activities associated with Amritanandamayi. He also said that people should regard themselves as temporary guests on Earth rather than its owners.

The hospital block’s inauguration places the facility within a wider set of charitable and institutional activities linked to the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in the city. The report also referred to assistance provided to poorer residents, including homes or shelters, but did not provide figures or details of those programmes.

The event was attended by legislators G.T. Deve Gowda and T.S. Srivatsa, entrepreneur Nagaraja Gargeswari, Bank Note Paper Mill India managing director Anant Hegde, Dr P.K. Prahlad and Dr K.P. Girish Kumar. The report did not mention the project’s construction cost, total hospital capacity after the expansion, staffing plan, equipment, accreditation status or the authority responsible for regulating its clinical operations.

For residents, the immediate significance of the announcement is the addition of a 100-bed healthcare facility in Roopa Nagar. However, the public information available so far does not establish the services patients will be able to access, the charges that will apply or the timeline for the block’s full operation. Those details will determine the extent of its impact on Mysuru’s healthcare network.
