Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Maan and Hinjewadi IT Park with Shivajinagar, will be inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 3, with passenger services beginning on November 4, according to Lokmat – Pune.
The inauguration event will be held at the badminton hall of the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mhalunge-Balewadi. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar are expected to attend the programme along with other dignitaries.
The first phase of the corridor will open 17 of the planned 23 stations to passengers. The line is expected to provide a direct metro connection between the Maan-Hinjewadi area, a major information technology and employment hub, and Shivajinagar, a key central transport and administrative district in Pune.
Six stations will not be fully available at the initial launch. Work on Stations 13 and 14 is in its final stage and is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2026. Stations 15, 16, 20 and 22 are expected to be completed in phases by January 2027, according to the report.
Once operational, Pune Metro Line 3 will connect with the existing MahaMetro network, including Line 1 between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate and Line 2 between Vanaz and Ramwadi. The planned integration is intended to allow passengers to connect between the new corridor and the existing metro routes rather than depend on separate systems for different parts of their journeys.
PITCMRL Chief Executive Officer Anilkumar Saini said the last train from Maan towards District Court would depart at 10:30 pm, while the final service from District Court towards Maan would leave at 11:40 pm. These timings will determine the late-evening travel window for employees and residents using the corridor.
Train frequency will vary during the day. Services are scheduled to run every six minutes during peak periods and every 12 minutes during non-peak hours. The frequency is particularly relevant to the corridor’s expected commuter base, which includes employees travelling to and from Hinjewadi’s technology parks as well as residents of the western Pune growth belt.
A shared mobile application has also been developed for ticket booking on Pune Metro Line 3 and the remaining MahaMetro network. The common platform is intended to let passengers book tickets for journeys involving the new corridor and the existing metro lines through a single application.
The staggered opening means that the corridor will begin operations before all 23 stations are complete. The next operational milestones are the expected completion of Stations 13 and 14 by November-end, followed by the phased completion of Stations 15, 16, 20 and 22 by January 2027.
