Indore police searched three private schools after bomb threat emails were sent ahead of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s scheduled concert in the city on November 15, while a similar threat was received by the office of Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava. No explosives were found during the searches, and preliminary police findings suggest that the messages may have been hoaxes.
The emails, written in Punjabi, threatened bomb blasts at the three schools and warned their managements against sending students to the concert, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya told reporters. The threats linked the schools’ managements and the proposed attendance of students to the upcoming performance.
Bomb disposal squads searched all three schools after the threats were received, Dandotiya said. The searches did not result in the discovery of any explosives. The police have not reported any incident at the schools connected to the emails.
The office of Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava also received an email threatening a bomb blast in connection with Dosanjh’s performance. The mayor’s office is a municipal institution, making the threat part of a wider security investigation involving both educational premises and a public authority.
Police said the emails appeared to be hoaxes based on preliminary investigations. However, officials have not closed the case. The crime branch is examining technical evidence to identify the sender or senders of the messages, Dandotiya said. Appropriate legal action will be taken after the investigation, he added.
The police response has involved searches of the affected schools and an examination of the digital evidence associated with the emails. The available information does not establish who sent the threats, whether the messages originated from a common source, or whether any person has been detained or arrested.
The episode also comes before the organisers have completed their engagement with the police for the concert. Dandotiya clarified that the organisers of the November 15 event had not yet approached the police for permission to hold it. The statement distinguishes the threat investigation from the separate process of seeking police permission for the performance.
The concert is scheduled to take place in Indore on November 15, but the report does not provide details of the venue, expected attendance, security arrangements or any decision on whether the event will proceed. Police said the investigation into the threat emails was continuing, with the crime branch examining technical evidence before determining the next legal steps.
