Ambuja Cements will invest around Rs 14,500 crore to add 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of cement capacity across India by FY30, expanding its installed capacity from 113.5 MTPA to a targeted 155 MTPA. The plan will add grinding and clinker facilities across western, eastern and northern markets.
The proposed cement capacity additions include 15.5 MTPA in the western region, 11.6 MTPA in the east and 2.9 MTPA in the north. The company said the expansion would strengthen its manufacturing network by placing production facilities closer to consumption centres.
On the clinker side, Ambuja plans a 4 MTPA facility at Umrangso in Assam. It will also add a 4 MTPA unit at Maratha and a 2.3 MTPA facility at Mundra in the western region. Clinker is an essential intermediate material used in cement production, while grinding units convert clinker into finished cement.
The company expects the expanded network to reduce transportation distances and improve integration between clinker manufacturing and cement grinding. It has set a target of reducing cement manufacturing costs to Rs 4,000 per tonne by FY28.
“Every capacity addition should strengthen the competitiveness of the overall business,” Vinod Bahety, CEO, Cement Business, Adani Group, said. He said the expansion would improve logistics efficiency and create a more balanced manufacturing network.
Ambuja has already added 4.6 MTPA of cement capacity during the first half of FY27. This includes a 1.2 MTPA brownfield expansion at Dahej in Gujarat, a 2.4 MTPA grinding unit at Salai Banwa in Uttar Pradesh and a 1 MTPA expansion at Kalamboli in Maharashtra.
The company’s immediate expansion pipeline includes a 1.2 MTPA grinding unit at Bathinda in Punjab and a 2 MTPA integrated unit at Jodhpur Penna in Rajasthan. Both are expected to ramp up operations during the second half of FY27. A 2.4 MTPA grinding unit at Warisaliganj in Bihar is also scheduled for commissioning during the same period.
These projects are expected to take Ambuja’s total cement capacity to 119 MTPA by March 2027. Since its acquisition, the company has completed 11 capacity expansion projects, adding 16.3 MTPA of cement capacity and 9 MTPA of clinker capacity up to September 30, 2026. The next expansion phase will place manufacturing capacity across multiple regions while linking new clinker units with grinding facilities and markets.
