Rana Suryavanshi’s Y-Plus security cover has been withdrawn following a review by Maharashtra’s State Intelligence Department, leaving the Pune-based businessman with protection from one armed police constable, according to an order reported by Lokmat-Pune.
The special security arrangement had been sanctioned on February 17, 2026, after Suryavanshi faced an attack in Akkalkot in Solapur district in September 2025. He was later attacked again in the Gojubavi area of Baramati on October 18, when assailants arriving on a motorcycle allegedly struck him with a sickle.
The Baramati attack is being investigated by Pune Rural Police. Two people, including a minor, were detained in connection with the case, while three close associates of Suryavanshi allegedly seen in CCTV footage from the scene remain untraced, the report said. Police examined footage from the location as part of the investigation.
The security review followed an assessment by Maharashtra Director General of Police Sadanand Date. The review found that personnel from districts outside Pune had been deployed as part of Suryavanshi’s protection detail, apart from members of the Pune City Police, according to the report.
The State Intelligence Department’s special inspector general issued the order withdrawing the Y-Plus arrangement. A separate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the security deployment has been assigned to Additional Director General of Police Nikhil Gupta, who is responsible for law and order.
Suryavanshi lives in the Magarpatta City area of Hadapsar in Pune and operates a shipping company, along with businesses in Gadchiroli, the report said. The earlier security cover had been provided against the backdrop of the attacks in Akkalkot and Baramati.
Following the withdrawal of the special arrangement, the businessman will continue to receive protection from one armed police personnel, commonly referred to as a gunman. The order relating to the revised protection was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Prashant Amritkar, who heads the Pune Police’s Special Branch.
