Pune’s Khadakwasla dam chain recorded rainfall in all four catchment areas over the 24-hour period ending Monday morning, taking combined water storage to 23.51 TMC, or 80.65% of total capacity, according to data reported by Civic Mirror – Pune.
The four reservoirs recorded rainfall from 6 am on Sunday to 6 am on Monday. Khadakwasla received 8 mm, Panshet 13 mm, Varasgaon 11 mm and Temghar 5 mm during the period.
Despite the latest rainfall, the combined storage remains below last year’s level for the same date. The four reservoirs held 28.40 TMC, or 97.41% of capacity, on the corresponding day last year. The current storage is therefore 4.89 TMC lower than last year’s figure.
The reservoir-wise data shows significant variation across the chain. Varasgaon has the highest current storage level at 85.63% of capacity, with 10.98 TMC stored. Temghar is at 84.63%, holding 3.14 TMC. Panshet has 8.27 TMC, equivalent to 77.67% of its capacity.
Khadakwasla has the lowest storage percentage among the four reservoirs. It currently holds 1.12 TMC, or 56.82% of capacity. The reservoir received 790 mm of rainfall from June 1 to Monday morning.
Temghar has recorded the highest cumulative rainfall in the dam chain since June 1, with 3,252 mm. Panshet has received 2,355 mm during the same period, while Varasgaon has recorded 2,208 mm.
The latest figures show that rainfall has not translated into uniform storage levels across the four reservoirs. Catchment rainfall, reservoir capacity and the location of each dam within the chain contribute to the different storage percentages reported for Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar.
The combined 23.51 TMC storage figure will remain the key reference point for monitoring the dam chain’s water position. The next update will indicate whether continuing rainfall improves the year-on-year storage gap or whether the difference from last year remains at 4.89 TMC.
