October Vehicle Sales Hit Records as Festive Demand Surges

October vehicle sales reached record levels for several major manufacturers as festive-season demand lifted passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, exports and two-wheelers, providing a strong signal for India’s mobility and automotive markets.

Maruti Suzuki India recorded its highest-ever monthly sales volume at 2,76,120 units, including exports. Its domestic wholesales, or dispatches to dealers, also reached an all-time high of 2,16,789 units, including light commercial vehicles. The figure was 20 per cent higher than the 1,80,675 units dispatched domestically in October 2025.

The company said its previous best monthly sales performances were recorded in May 2026, when it sold 2.43 lakh units, and July 2026, when sales reached 2.41 lakh units. The October figures indicate that manufacturers and dealers entered the festive period with strong demand across personal mobility and commercial vehicle segments.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported domestic wholesales of 73,894 units in October, a 21 per cent increase from the 61,134 units recorded in the same month last year. Mahindra & Mahindra sold 73,338 vehicles in the domestic market, up 2 per cent year on year from 71,624 units in October 2025.

Mahindra said its October SUV sales and total vehicle sales both reached their highest monthly levels. The company reported total vehicle sales of 1,31,109 units during the month, with demand spread across SUVs, pick-ups and three-wheelers. It also said its first compressed natural gas vehicle, the XUV 3XO ZNG, had seen strong traction among customers.

“October was a landmark month for us, with SUV sales topping at 73,338 units and total vehicle sales of 1,31,109, both the highest we have ever clocked in a month,” Velusamy R, president of Mahindra’s automotive business, said. He attributed the performance to festive demand and the company’s refreshed product portfolio.

Hyundai Motor India reported its highest-ever total monthly sales at 82,299 units, including domestic sales and exports. The company said the figure represented a 17.7 per cent year-on-year increase. Domestic wholesales stood at 62,799 units, up 16.7 per cent, while exports reached 19,500 units, an increase of 21.1 per cent.

“Strong festive demand, coupled with healthy momentum in both domestic and export markets, helped us set this new sales record,” Tarun Garg, managing director and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor India, said. He added that the newly launched Hyundai Bayon would support the company’s growth in India and more than 50 export markets.

JSW MG Motor India dispatched 8,013 units in October, recording 19 per cent growth from 6,397 units in the corresponding month last year. In the two-wheeler segment, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India dispatched 6,64,831 units, compared with 5,98,952 units in October 2025.

The sales figures cover dispatches from manufacturers to dealers rather than final retail registrations by customers. The October performance therefore captures the volume of vehicles entering dealer networks during the festive period. The next indication of consumer demand will come from retail registrations and subsequent monthly sales data.
