Census 2027: Lucknow Sets Door-to-Door Count From December 1

Lucknow district will deploy 10,467 enumerators and supervisors for the second phase of Census 2027, with door-to-door population enumeration scheduled from December 1, 2026, to January 4, 2027, according to details reviewed at a district-level meeting chaired by district magistrate Vishak G on Saturday.

The exercise will cover households across the district and will follow a self-enumeration window from November 16 to 30. Residents who complete the process online through the official portal will receive a unique identification number. They will be required to share this number with visiting enumerators so that the online information can be verified during the household visit.

The population enumeration questionnaire will contain 40 questions. These will cover personal details, age, gender, date and place of birth, marital status, mother tongue, educational qualifications, literacy, employment and livelihood activities. The information will form part of the population count and related demographic enumeration for the district.

The Lucknow administration said the first phase, involving house listing and housing enumeration, has already been completed. The second phase will focus on collecting population-level information through visits to individual households. The administration’s schedule also includes a revision round from January 5 to 9, 2027, intended to address omissions and support comprehensive coverage.

The district magistrate directed officials to ensure that no eligible individual was left out of the enumeration. She also instructed authorities to monitor the work of enumerators closely during the household visits. The directions place responsibility on the district administration to track field-level implementation across Lucknow and to respond to households that are missed during the exercise.

Census 2027 will be India’s 16th census and the eighth since Independence, according to the district administration. For the first time, the exercise is being conducted digitally. The move means that residents will have both a self-enumeration option and an in-person verification process, with the identification number serving as the link between the two stages.

Residents seeking assistance can contact the national helpline at 1855 or use the WhatsApp chatbot at 18001801855. Families that are missed during the enumeration can also report their exclusion through these channels. The administration’s next scheduled milestone is the start of self-enumeration on November 16, followed by door-to-door population enumeration from December 1.
