Delhi Traffic Curbs Tighten Ahead of Nov 1 Ramlila Rally

Delhi traffic curbs will be imposed across parts of central Delhi from 10 am to 5 pm on November 1 for an INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, the Delhi Traffic Police said, warning commuters of diversions and congestion on several important roads.

Traffic movement will be regulated at key intersections depending on the situation, including the Netaji Subhash Marg T-point, Rajghat, Delhi Gate, ITO A-point, Ajmeri Gate red light, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Jhandewalan roundabout, Turkman Gate and Mirdard Chowk.

The traffic police said commuters could face delays on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg between ITO and Delhi Gate, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg between Rajghat and Ajmeri Gate, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, Minto Road, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and Barakhamba Road. Roads around Kamla Market and Hamdard Chowk are also expected to experience pressure during the rally and the associated movement of participants.

Additional traffic personnel will be deployed across the Central Range to regulate vehicles, guide commuters towards designated parking areas and prevent congestion around Ramlila Maidan. Bus movement may also be regulated on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, the Rajghat-Jawaharlal Nehru Marg stretch, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and Minto Road.

A separate passage will be kept available near Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for emergency vehicles. Parking arrangements have been made at the railway parking area opposite the hospital, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation parking lots and Rajghat, according to the traffic advisory. The emergency passage is intended to preserve access to the hospital while vehicle movement is managed around the rally venue.

Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station have been advised to plan their journeys in advance. Travellers approaching from the Desh Bandhu Gupta Road side can use Chelmsford Road, the Outer Circle of Connaught Place, Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg. Those arriving from east Delhi have been advised to use ITO, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and Bhavbhuti Marg to reach the station.

The INDIA bloc has planned what it has described as a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan over the issue of alleged irregularities in voter lists and is seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A march is also scheduled at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan, adding to the likelihood of traffic restrictions along the route.

The Delhi Traffic Police said the restrictions and diversions would remain in force during the 10 am to 5 pm window, with changes made according to traffic conditions. Commuters using central Delhi roads, buses, the New Delhi railway station and routes near LNJP Hospital have been advised to allow extra travel time and follow directions from traffic personnel.
