Delhi Accessible Infrastructure Push Gets Fresh Government Promise

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government is working to make the capital’s infrastructure fully accessible for differently-abled people, while inaugurating the seven-day Diwali Bazaar 2026 at the Blind Relief Association premises on Friday.

The Chief Minister visited stalls at the bazaar and viewed handmade products created by visually impaired individuals. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, she encouraged the artisans to showcase their skills and said accessible infrastructure was necessary to ensure that differently-abled persons could live with dignity and enjoy equal opportunities.

The announcement was made at an event that combines public access, livelihood opportunities and inclusion. Organised by the Blind Relief Association, the Diwali Bazaar has been part of Delhi’s Diwali tradition for more than 45 years. This year’s edition is being held from October 30 to November 5 and has more than 250 stalls, the CMO said.

The bazaar also features products made by visually impaired individuals, giving artisans a platform to sell their work during the festive season. The event places employment and independent participation alongside the broader issue of how people with disabilities access public spaces and services in the capital.

During her visit, Ms. Gupta also visited Cafe Mast, which is run by visually challenged youth associated with the organisation. The CMO said the young staff independently manage the cafe’s operations, including food preparation, customer service and transactions.

The Chief Minister’s statement did not specify individual infrastructure projects, locations, budgets or deadlines for the accessibility work. It also did not provide details on the standards or monitoring mechanism that will be used to assess accessibility across Delhi. The government’s next steps on the commitment were not outlined in the statement.
