PMPML Bus Fare Concession Cuts Senior Citizen Fares by 50% From November 1

PMPML bus fare concession for senior citizens will take effect across all routes from November 1, 2026, with passengers aged 60 and above eligible to pay half the regular ticket fare, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited said in a press note issued on October 30.

The concession will apply across the transport body’s network in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and areas under the jurisdiction of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. PMPML said its board of directors had approved the scheme to make bus travel more affordable and accessible for older passengers.

Eligible passengers will have to carry proof of age while travelling. PMPML has listed an Aadhaar card, PAN card or PMPML senior citizen identity card as acceptable documents. The transport body said an Aadhaar card used for verification must display the passenger’s complete date of birth.

The new ticket concession will operate alongside PMPML’s existing senior citizen daily pass. The pass is available for ₹35 after a 50% discount on the regular daily pass fare of ₹70. The press note did not state whether the new concession changes the existing daily pass arrangement.

PMPML operates bus services across the twin-city area of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, as well as locations covered by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Its network serves daily commuters travelling for work, education, healthcare, shopping and other essential activities.

For older residents, the fare reduction lowers the direct cost of using the region’s bus network, although passengers will still need to carry the required documentation to access the benefit. The transport body has appealed to eligible senior citizens to use the concession from its start date.

The announcement comes as public transport affordability remains linked to access to essential services for residents who may not have access to private vehicles. PMPML’s stated objective is to extend the benefit across its full route network rather than limit it to selected corridors or services.

The concession will begin on November 1, 2026. PMPML has not provided further details in the press note on the estimated number of eligible passengers, the financial impact of the scheme or the process for resolving documentation-related disputes at ticketing points.
