Indore’s Vision for Aerial Ropeway Transit to Revolutionize City Connectivity

Indore is on the brink of a major transportation upgrade with the proposed introduction of an aerial ropeway transit system, a move designed to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity across the city. This comes after a key meeting chaired by Indore Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, attended by senior officials, including Collector Asheesh Singh, IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, and IDA CEO RP Ahirwar. The meeting saw critical decisions being made to enhance the city’s infrastructure and development.

The Indore Development Authority (IDA) board finalized two proposed routes for the aerial ropeway system, which will offer a new and efficient mode of transit for Indore’s residents. The first route will connect Chandan Nagar Square, Gangwal Bus Stand, Malgwan Square, Yashwant Road, Gurudwara, Jawahar Marg Square, Sarvate Bus Stand, Maharaja Yashwant Hospital, and Shivaji Statue, covering several prominent locations in the city. The second route will link Indore Railway Station, Malwa Mill Square, Patnipura Square Bhamori, and Vijay Nagar Square. A detailed survey will be conducted for both routes to ensure their feasibility and effectiveness. Along with the aerial ropeway system, the meeting also saw the approval of key infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city’s transport network. IDA has sanctioned a feasibility study and tender documents for a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and an elevated corridor that will include several flyovers. These projects will be managed by M/s VK Infra Tech Management Pvt Ltd, based in Delhi.

Further administrative approvals were granted for the development of plots in Scheme No. 97, the maintenance of row houses in Scheme No. 134, and the operation of the newly constructed Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium. The renovation of the Tulsi Das Ram Temple in Khajuri Bazaar, estimated at Rs. 2.25 crore, was also approved. In a move to streamline operations, IDA decided to appoint separate agencies for the management of the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Schemes No. 139 and 169-A, one for commercial activities and the other for maintenance and upkeep. Additionally, minimum rates for the disposal of plots in various schemes were fixed to ensure transparency and consistency. These infrastructure initiatives will undoubtedly help shape Indore into a more connected and efficient city, setting the stage for a brighter, more sustainable future.
