Delhi Bomb Threat Case Cracked in 48 Hours; UPSC Aspirant Arrested

Delhi police have arrested a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant from Kanpur after tracing a bomb threat made to civil-service aspirants in Mukherjee Nagar, with investigators alleging that the call was a hoax intended to frighten the caller’s former roommate.

According to the North-West district police, the threatening call was received on the night of October 27 by civil-service aspirants living in Indra Vikas Colony. The caller allegedly claimed to be linked to an organisation based in Lahore, Pakistan, and threatened a bomb blast in Delhi. The call also included objectionable remarks about political figures, police said.

The information was subsequently passed to the police. An FIR was registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station on October 29, according to the report published by Jagran. The case involved both a claimed cross-border connection and a potential threat to a densely occupied locality known for housing and coaching facilities used by civil-service aspirants.

Police said the investigation was advanced using technical evidence linked to the call, digital footprints and other information. The inquiry also involved interstate coordination, allowing a police team to travel to Kanpur and arrest the suspect, who was identified as a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant from the city.

Investigators found that the accused had allegedly made the call as a prank aimed at his former roommate. The police account indicates that the claim of association with a Lahore-based organisation was false. The report does not provide further details about the exact phone number, the identity of the former roommate or the sections invoked in the FIR.

Mukherjee Nagar is a prominent residential and coaching hub for civil-service aspirants, making the reported threat significant from a public-safety perspective even though police allege that it was not linked to an actual bomb plot. The incident also demonstrates how a threatening call using a purported foreign connection can trigger a police response involving technical investigation and coordination across state borders.

The arrest came within 48 hours of the incident, according to North-West district police. Further legal proceedings will determine the allegations against the accused and the evidence presented in the case. The police investigation remains the basis for the details reported about the motive and the alleged prank.
