A father and his 11-year-old son died after falling from the balcony of a 23rd-floor apartment at Mahagun Mywoods society in Greater Noida on Friday morning, with Bisrakh police investigating the circumstances of the high-rise housing accident.
Police received information about the incident through the Police Response Vehicle system and reached Tower 23 soon afterwards. The victims were identified as around 40-year-old Randeep Patra, son of Amal Kumar Patra, and his 11-year-old son, Aarav. Both were found in a critical condition and were taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
According to the statement given to police by Randeep’s wife, the family was scheduled to leave early for Khatu Shyam Temple. The father and son had gone to the balcony to pluck flowers for worship. The preliminary account says that the boy’s foot slipped while he was using a ladder or standing near the balcony, after which he began hanging over the edge.
The report said Randeep tried to save his son but lost his balance in the process. Both then fell from the 23rd floor. The height of the fall caused severe injuries, and neither could be saved. Police have not described the sequence as conclusively established and said that the exact cause and circumstances would become clear after the investigation.
The incident triggered panic inside the residential complex and grief among the family members. It also places attention on the safety risks associated with routine household activities around high-rise balconies, particularly where ladders, edges and open spaces are involved. No further details about the balcony design, safety barriers or any possible structural or maintenance issue were provided in the report.
Bisrakh police began the legal process after the deaths, including preparing the inquest documents and initiating arrangements to send the bodies for post-mortem examination. Officers said all relevant aspects of the incident were being examined and that necessary legal action would follow.
The police investigation is expected to establish the precise chain of events, including how the ladder was positioned, how the boy fell or became caught near the balcony and what happened during the father’s rescue attempt. Until that inquiry is complete, the account of the ladder slipping and the rescue attempt remains preliminary and based on information reported by the family and police.
