Chennai traffic police will conduct a citywide zero-tolerance enforcement drive on Saturday, October 31, targeting traffic violations on major and arterial roads, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police said in a statement.
Special checks will be carried out across the city, with cases to be registered against motorists found violating traffic rules. The initiative is intended to improve compliance with traffic regulations, raise awareness among road users and support safer travel on Chennai’s roads.
The traffic police have asked two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and car occupants to use seat belts. Motorists have also been cautioned against speeding, dangerous driving and using mobile phones while driving.
The enforcement action will cover major and arterial routes, although the statement did not specify the number of personnel involved, the locations of checkpoints or the penalties that may be imposed for individual violations.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police said cooperation from the public would be necessary to make the initiative effective. It urged motorists to obey traffic signals and follow road-safety regulations during the drive.
The police said the campaign was being conducted to prevent road accidents and promote safer roads and journeys. Enforcement and case registration will take place during the scheduled Zero Tolerance Day on October 31.
