Pune Airport has ranked first among 16 participating Indian airports for passenger facilities and service quality, scoring 4.98 out of 5 in the July–September Airport Service Quality survey conducted by the Airports Authority of India and Canada-based Airports Council International Airport Service Quality (ACI-ASQ).
The result places Pune airport at the top of the ‘Best Airport by Size’ category in the latest assessment, which measures passengers’ experience of airport services. The survey included about 500 airports worldwide, while 16 airports in India participated in the relevant comparison.
Passenger feedback forms the basis of the assessment. The survey examines 31 service indicators, including the condition of toilets, cleanliness inside the terminal, waiting time at check-in and security counters, staff interaction with passengers and the quality of food outlets.
Pune’s score was higher than those recorded by Chennai and Patna, which both received 4.94. Kozhikode and Varanasi followed with 4.93 each, while Goa scored 4.92. Bhubaneswar received 4.91, and Kolkata, Raipur and Indore each recorded 4.90.
The survey is conducted through direct feedback from passengers and is intended to help airports identify areas for service improvement. The Airports Authority of India participates in the process alongside ACI-ASQ, with airports assessed according to their size and category rather than through a single undifferentiated ranking.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol described Pune’s first-place position in passenger services as a matter of pride for the city. He attributed the result to efforts by the airport administration to improve passenger convenience and said work would continue to expand Pune’s air connectivity and provide higher-quality facilities.
Aviation expert Dhairyashil Wandekar said Pune Airport’s performance in the third quarter was stronger than in the second quarter. He said the result reflected the quality of passenger experience, cleanliness, security and staff services.
The ranking provides a service-quality snapshot at a time when Pune Airport remains an important part of the city’s regional and national transport network. The survey result, however, is based on passenger perceptions and the specific assessment period from July to September. Further improvements will depend on whether the airport can maintain its performance across future quarters while responding to passenger demand and connectivity requirements.
The Airports Authority of India and ACI-ASQ will continue to use passenger feedback and the 31 assessment criteria to evaluate airport service quality in subsequent survey periods.
