Officials in Telangana have been directed to speed up graduates voter enrolment and complete the verification of applications for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ MLC constituency within the prescribed deadline, with authorities also asked to improve polling-station accessibility.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vasam Venkateswarlu Reddy issued the instructions during a review meeting at the Nalgonda District Collectorate attended by Electoral Registration Officers and Revenue Divisional Officers from the combined districts of Nalgonda, Warangal and Khammam.
Reddy said measures would be taken to verify voter-registration applications promptly so that all eligible graduates could exercise their voting rights in the constituency. He directed officials to process applications without delay while ensuring that the verification process complied with the applicable rules.
Officials were instructed to examine original certificates, marks memos, provisional certificates and employment certificates submitted in support of applicants’ educational qualifications. Additional staff may be deployed where necessary to accelerate certificate verification, according to the directions issued at the meeting.
The verification process is required to establish eligibility for the graduates’ constituency and to prevent errors in the electoral roll. Reddy directed officials to identify and reject duplicate entries in accordance with the rules. The instructions place responsibility for checking educational qualifications with the concerned officials, while residential details are to be verified at field level.
Booth Level Officers were asked to conduct field verification of voters’ residential addresses. Applications seeking changes to residential details must also be resolved strictly according to the rules, the Additional Chief Electoral Officer said.
The meeting also addressed access to polling stations. Reddy instructed officials to ensure that polling locations were easily accessible to voters and suggested that authorities consider sites closer to voters’ residential areas. The direction links the enrolment process with the practical ability of registered voters to reach polling facilities when voting takes place.
The Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ MLC constituency covers voters whose eligibility depends on both residence-related verification and educational qualification checks. The instructions therefore require coordination between electoral registration officials, revenue authorities and Booth Level Officers across the three combined districts.
Reddy called for a special action plan to complete voter registration within the prescribed deadline. The meeting was attended by Nalgonda District Collector B. Chandrasekhar, Additional Collector (Revenue) J. Srinivas and Suryapet Additional Collector (Revenue) B. Hari Singh.
The officials are expected to proceed with certificate scrutiny, field verification, duplicate-entry checks, address-related applications and polling-station planning under the action plan ordered at the review meeting.
