The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph in 12 Telangana districts, even as rainfall activity is expected to ease across the state. Hyderabad may see isolated showers, with partly cloudy and hazy conditions forecast during the morning.
The warning covers Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda. The alert indicates a continuing risk from localised thunderstorms and strong winds despite the broader reduction in rainfall intensity.
For Hyderabad, the forecast includes partly cloudy skies and hazy conditions in the morning, with isolated rainfall possible. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 32°C and the minimum around 22°C. The weather conditions are relevant for commuters, road users and outdoor workers because short-duration showers, lightning and gusty winds can affect visibility and movement even when widespread rain is not forecast.
The latest warning follows rainfall linked to the impact of Cyclone Arnab across parts of Telangana on Wednesday. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, rainfall between 10 mm and 21.3 mm was recorded by early afternoon in parts of Khammam, Mulugu, Suryapet and Bhadradri Kothagudem. Nalgonda, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Jayashankar Bhupalpally recorded rainfall of up to 10 mm.
The IMD had issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nalgonda and Suryapet during the earlier phase of the weather system. The system brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of the region after the very severe cyclonic storm crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts on Wednesday morning. It weakened as it moved inland.
Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 27.2°C on Wednesday, five degrees lower than the previous day’s maximum. The sharp drop reflected the influence of the weather system over the region, although the forecast for the city now points to easing rainfall activity and a return to higher daytime temperatures.
The yellow alert remains in place for the 12 districts named by the IMD, with thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph identified as the main risks. The immediate forecast indicates that rainfall may continue at isolated locations while the weather system weakens over Telangana.
