The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the budget for the 74.3-kilometre Jewar Link Expressway, clearing a major hurdle for the proposed road connecting the Yamuna Expressway near the film city area with the Ganga Expressway near Siyana in Bulandshahr. The state government has directed officials to complete land acquisition and begin construction quickly.
The project is being developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). It is intended to create a direct link between two of the state’s major expressway corridors and improve road connectivity across the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.
The cabinet has approved a combined budget of Rs 17,542 crore for four new link-expressway projects. The approval covers the Jewar Link Expressway, the Farrukhabad Link Expressway packages, the link connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Purvanchal Expressway, and the Jhansi Link Expressway packages.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed land acquisition and other development works for the link-expressway projects on Tuesday and directed officials to complete the process so that construction can begin at the earliest, according to the report. The Jewar project has already moved into the tendering stage, with UPEIDA having issued tenders for its construction.
Land acquisition is substantially complete in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area. Of the 740 acres that the Yamuna authority was responsible for acquiring, 33 acres remain to be purchased, while approximately 95 per cent of the required land has already been acquired in the area. The Bulandshahr district administration and the Yamuna authority are handling land purchases for the project.
The expressway’s alignment will begin near the film city on the Yamuna Expressway and connect with the Ganga Expressway near Siyana in Bulandshahr. This positioning places the road within a wider network of expressways serving the NCR, western Uttar Pradesh and other regions of the state. The project is expected to support smoother movement between the Yamuna and Ganga corridors once completed.
The state has also approved the selection of developers for the four link-expressway projects. Construction is targeted for completion within about three years after the developers are selected. The projects will then have a five-year maintenance arrangement.
The Uttar Pradesh government will bear the total estimated cost of construction and maintenance. No financial participation from the central government is expected under the approved proposal. The developers were selected on the basis of the lowest financial proposal submitted by bidders, while construction will be carried out under the engineering, procurement and construction model, with requirements relating to quality and timelines.
The next steps for the Jewar Link Expressway are the completion of the remaining land acquisition, finalisation of the development process and commencement of construction under the approved project framework.
