IMT Sohna Gets Push to Become Gurugram’s Textile Hub

IMT Sohna is being positioned as a potential textile and garment manufacturing hub as Haryana seeks investment from entrepreneurs in Surat and Ahmedabad, with an agreement planned during a meeting with textile businesses in Ahmedabad on October 28.

Officials of the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) recently visited Surat and held discussions with textile industry representatives. They invited businesses to invest in IMT Sohna and provided information on industrial plots and the land-allotment process, according to the report by Live Hindustan – NCR.

HSIIDC Estate Officer Sunil Paliwal said a delegation had engaged with entrepreneurs in Surat and Ahmedabad to encourage investment in Haryana. The outreach has focused on businesses involved in polyester, synthetic textiles, saree and suit materials, as well as garment manufacturing.

The proposed investment model is linked to Surat’s existing textile ecosystem. Officials also contacted major industrial organisations and textile trade associations to discuss setting up textile units in Sohna and sourcing bulk raw material from Surat. The report said the proposed manufacturing activity could create new employment opportunities in the industrial area.

A meeting with textile entrepreneurs is scheduled in Ahmedabad on October 28, where memorandums of understanding related to new investment and industrial projects are expected to be signed. The report did not specify the companies involved, the proposed value of individual investments, the number of jobs expected or the terms of the proposed agreements.

IMT Sohna is part of the Sohna Model Township, which extends across approximately 1,600 acres. Its proposed textile link with Surat is also being supported by road connectivity. The report said bulk textile orders could be transported to Sohna through the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, while transporters already connect Surat’s textile market with industrial and warehouse locations in the Sohna and Sohna Road belts.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reached Surat on Tuesday for a two-day visit focused on discussions with company representatives about investment opportunities in the state. He is also scheduled to meet members of Haryana’s migrant community in Surat. State Industries Minister Rao Narbir is accompanying him, while discussions with large industries and the proposed MoU signing are planned in Ahmedabad.

The immediate next step is the October 28 meeting with Ahmedabad-based textile entrepreneurs. The scale of investment and the specific projects that may emerge from the outreach will depend on the agreements and subsequent land-allotment and project implementation processes.
