Mumbai–Jeddah Flights Shift to Navi Mumbai Airport From December

Akasa Air will shift its Mumbai–Jeddah flight operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from December 2026, adding to the new airport’s international services and changing the departure point for passengers on the route.

Akasa Air and Adani Airport Holdings Limited announced the phased transition on Tuesday. Bookings opened on October 26 through Akasa Air’s website, its Android and iOS applications, and online travel agencies.

The airline has not specified the exact date in December when the Mumbai–Jeddah services will move to NMIA. Passengers travelling on the route from December have been advised to check their booking details carefully and confirm the airport from which their flight will depart.

The shift is part of the developing dual-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with CSMIA and NMIA expected to share the region’s growing aviation demand. It will also add to NMIA’s international operations as the airport expands its role in the region’s air connectivity network.

The airport transition is linked to a broader plan to distribute passenger traffic between Mumbai’s two airports while CSMIA’s Terminal 1 undergoes redevelopment. Air India Express is scheduled to begin four daily domestic services from NMIA in December 2026, followed by selected international services from January 2027. IndiGo plans to begin international operations from NMIA in February 2027 and progressively transfer 12 daily international departures from CSMIA over the following months.

The airport operator has said the initial phase of the transition is intended to shift around five million passengers to NMIA. Approximately three million passengers, or about 70 per cent of the traffic targeted for relocation in the first phase, are expected to move. The temporary transition represents about 9 per cent of CSMIA’s annual passenger traffic of 55 million, while around 91 per cent of the traffic will continue to operate from CSMIA.

Akasa Air began operations in August 2022 and said it has served more than 31 million passengers since its launch. The airline currently connects 31 domestic and seven international cities, including Jeddah, Riyadh, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, Phuket and Hanoi. Its domestic network includes Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata, among other cities.

The carrier operates 44 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed an order for 226 aircraft, according to company information. Adani Airport Holdings operates eight airports in India, including CSMIA and NMIA, as well as airports in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram.

The next confirmed milestone for passengers is the December 2026 start of the shifted Mumbai–Jeddah operations. Until the airline announces the exact transfer date, travellers should rely on their booking details and airline updates to confirm the departure airport.
