Odisha has approved a competency attainment and certification centre for nursing officers and allied healthcare professionals at Bhubaneswar’s World Skill Center, creating a dedicated facility for advanced skills training and assessment of the state’s healthcare workforce.
The approval was granted by the Skill Development and Technical Education department after it examined a proposal submitted by the Health and Family Welfare department. In a communication to the health department, additional secretary Sukanta Kumar Pradhan said the proposed Competency Attainment and Certification Centre had been approved to operate from the World Skill Center campus.
The facility will be located on the sixth floor of the World Skill Center. According to official records cited in the report, representatives of the Health and Family Welfare department, development partner Jhpiego and World Skill Center authorities conducted a joint site inspection on September 30, 2026. The inspection team found the identified space suitable for the proposed centre.
Health secretary Aswathy S had sought permission to establish the facility after the site inspection. The proposal described the centre as a platform for competency-based training and certification for nursing officers and allied healthcare professionals. The department requested early approval so that further steps could be taken to operationalise the centre.
The proposed centre is intended to provide structured training and assessment aligned with defined professional standards. Officials said it would strengthen capacity building among Odisha’s healthcare personnel through industry-standard programmes and help improve clinical competencies. The stated objective is to support better patient care by ensuring that nursing and allied healthcare staff are assessed against identified skill requirements.
The initiative also links professional development to the functioning of public health facilities and clinical service settings across the state. The official notification said the centre would support continuous professional development and help align healthcare training with evolving service delivery requirements. The facility is expected to serve as a dedicated institutional mechanism rather than a one-time training programme, although the notification does not specify its launch date, intake capacity, course structure or certification schedule.
The approval has been communicated to the chief executive officer of the World Skill Center for necessary action. The next operational steps, including preparing the approved space, finalising training and assessment programmes and determining the centre’s schedule, will be taken by the concerned departments and the World Skill Center authorities.
