DCPCR Seeks Answers After Student Dies Inside Delhi School

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has sought an action-taken report from Delhi authorities after a 17-year-old Class 12 student died following an incident inside a government school in Krishna Nagar, east Delhi, raising questions about safety and supervision on school premises.

The commission took suo motu cognisance of the reported death at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya and directed the Directorate of Education, the school principal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the North-East district and the Station House Officer of Krishna Nagar police station to submit their reports within two weeks of receiving the order.

According to the report, the student was found severely burnt behind the guard room on Saturday. She was taken to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by the police.

Police are examining CCTV footage and questioning teachers and other school staff to establish what happened inside the campus. Investigators are also trying to determine how the materials reportedly recovered from the student’s school bag entered the premises. A three-page note, described in the report as a suspected suicide note, has also been recovered and is being examined.

The DCPCR said that if the details reported by the media are confirmed, the incident would raise serious concerns about the safety of children inside the school. The commission’s intervention places the focus not only on the death but also on the school’s access-control, supervision and emergency-response procedures.

The police are examining multiple aspects of the case. The report said investigators were considering the possibility of a relationship-related issue, among other lines of inquiry, but that the exact circumstances and reason behind the student’s death had not yet been established.

The student’s family has questioned the suicide theory and alleged negligence by school staff. Those claims remain part of the ongoing investigation and have not been independently established in the supplied report.

The commission’s order requires the education authorities, school administration and police officials to document the action taken within two weeks. The police investigation, including the review of CCTV footage, staff questioning and examination of the recovered note, is continuing.
