Ahmedabad Police Station Fire Damages More Than 20 Vehicles

An Ahmedabad police station fire damaged more than 20 vehicles kept behind Danilimda police station on October 24, with no casualties reported, according to a report by Divya Bhaskar. Fire personnel brought the blaze under control after it spread from one vehicle to another in the area used to store case-property and other vehicles.

The fire broke out suddenly in the afternoon at the rear of the police station, where around 20 to 25 vehicles were parked. The vehicles were reportedly among those held as case property, and some may have belonged to police station staff or other individuals.

After being alerted, fire services reached the location and began operations to contain the blaze. Police station staff and local residents also attempted to control the fire before the fire team completed the response. More than 20 vehicles were reported to have been severely damaged or destroyed.

A preliminary assessment cited in the report indicated that a short circuit may have caused the fire. However, the cause has not been treated as final. A Forensic Science Laboratory team is expected to examine the incident and determine how the fire started.

The vehicles stored behind the station included seized or otherwise retained vehicles connected with police proceedings. Damage to such vehicles can require subsequent identification, documentation and assessment by the investigating authorities. The report did not specify the individual cases linked to the vehicles or the exact extent of damage to each one.

Danilimda police are expected to register a station diary entry and investigate the incident. The fire services response prevented the blaze from causing injuries or deaths, while the forensic examination is expected to be the next formal step in establishing the cause.
