Uppal Flyover Approach Roads Get Fresh Traffic Plan Push

The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has begun preparing a traffic decongestion blueprint for Habsiguda and Uppal X Roads, with road widening, possible internal-colony diversions and new approach roads for the proposed Uppal flyover among the measures under review.

MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy directed officials to develop the plan during a visit to the two junctions on Saturday. The review covered junction improvements, road-widening possibilities and traffic-management measures intended to improve movement through the busy corridors.

At Habsiguda X Roads in Nacharam Circle, the commissioner asked officials to examine whether vehicles could be diverted through internal colony roads at suitable locations. The proposed diversions are to be assessed as part of the wider plan to reduce congestion at the junction. The source report did not specify the roads under consideration, the proposed diversion routes or whether any traffic restrictions have been approved.

The review at Habsiguda also included the possibility of widening roads and improving the junction. Officials have been asked to prepare a comprehensive blueprint, indicating that the measures remain at the planning and assessment stage rather than being immediate changes to traffic operations.

At Uppal X Roads in Uppal Circle, Reddy and officials from the MMC projects engineering wing examined land acquisition proposals linked to the proposed Uppal flyover. The engineering team reviewed the development of left-hand and right-hand approach roads running parallel to the Metro Rail corridor.

The commissioner directed the engineering officials to propose measures to improve road connectivity and traffic flow in Uppal. The review places the approach roads alongside the flyover proposal as a central part of the connectivity planning around the junction. However, the supplied report does not provide the land area involved, the number of affected properties, the acquisition cost, a construction schedule or a sanctioned project estimate.

The two junctions are being considered through separate local interventions within the municipal corporation. Habsiguda’s review is focused on junction improvements, possible road widening and traffic diversions, while Uppal’s review includes the land acquisition requirements for approach roads parallel to the Metro corridor.

For residents and road users, the immediate outcome is an instruction to prepare proposals rather than the start of construction or a confirmed traffic-management change. The effect on travel times, access to internal colony roads and properties that may be covered by acquisition will depend on the detailed plans and subsequent approvals.

The next stated step is for MMC engineering and other officials to submit proposals covering decongestion, connectivity and the approach roads required for the proposed Uppal flyover. No implementation timeline or final decision on the road-widening and diversion measures was provided in the report.
