Gaya Manufacturing City Launches as Bihar Targets ₹1 Lakh Crore Investment

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is set to launch the Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City in Gaya, a 1,670-acre industrial development that the state is presenting as a major platform for manufacturing investment and job creation. Industries minister Shreyasi Singh announced the launch on Friday, with the project scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday.

The Gaya project, operated through Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited, is part of a wider expansion of industrial land and infrastructure across the state. Singh said Bihar had received 1,091 investment proposals worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore since 2025, with the potential to generate over 68,800 jobs.

The state is also working to make more than 14,600 acres of industrial land available. Land acquisition is under way for new industrial areas at 28 locations across 25 districts, according to the industries department. The initiative is intended to create a larger land bank for factories and industrial clusters, although the supplied report does not specify how much of the proposed land has already been acquired or serviced.

Other projects cited by the department include a 143-acre mega food park in Muzaffarpur, a 62-acre mega leather, footwear and accessories cluster at Mahwal-Motipur, and a multi-modal logistics park at Fatuha. Bihar is also planning a model green industrial area at Jhanjharpur and special economic zones at Kumarbagh and Nawanagar in Buxar.

The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority has allotted 727 acres to 521 industrial units since the start of the 2025-26 financial year, Singh said. These allotments involve proposed investments of Rs 18,380 crore and could create 49,167 jobs. Bihar currently has 94 industrial areas and more than 32 lakh square feet of plug-and-play industrial infrastructure.

The state is simultaneously expanding support for technology-led industries. An Electronics City is under development, while the Bihar Semiconductor Policy 2026 is intended to promote semiconductor and related technology businesses. A technology centre is being established in Patna across 15 acres at an investment of Rs 171 crore.

The government has also revamped its single-window clearance portal, which now offers 62 services from nine departments. Investors can use the portal to apply for approvals and track applications online. The department said the state’s enterprise-support schemes have also expanded, with 47,075 beneficiaries receiving more than Rs 3,414 crore under the Mukhyamantri Udyami Yojana and 71,740 beneficiaries receiving Rs 581 crore under the Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana.

Startup Bihar has registered 1,762 startups and disbursed Rs 103 crore in funding, according to the information presented by the industries department. The next implementation milestones for the Gaya manufacturing city, including land servicing, unit allotments and construction schedules, were not specified in the supplied report.
