Ahmedabad Civic Centres Open Seven Days to Ease Weekend Service Burden

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s seven zonal civic centres will remain open seven days a week, including the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday, allowing residents to access key municipal services on public holidays. The centres will operate from 9 am to 4.30 pm on these additional working days, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.

The decision is intended to help residents who cannot visit civic offices during regular working days because of jobs, businesses or other commitments. The extended schedule will apply across AMC’s seven zonal civic centres and will cover several commonly used offline services.

Residents will be able to approach the centres for municipal tax-related work, birth and death certificates, hall bookings and other important civic services. The report did not specify whether every service available on regular working days would be offered during the weekend hours, or whether any service-specific restrictions would apply.

Municipal civic centres serve as access points for residents who need to complete applications, submit documents or obtain certificates through in-person processes. While several public services have moved online, the continued operation of physical centres remains important for citizens who require assistance with documentation or cannot complete transactions digitally.

According to information cited in the report, between 10,000 and 12,000 residents visit the civic centres each day for different types of work. Opening the centres on selected Saturdays and Sundays is therefore expected to expand the available window for accessing municipal services, particularly for residents whose working hours overlap with weekday office timings.

The additional operating days are the second and fourth Saturdays, along with every Sunday. The centres will open at 9 am and close at 4.30 pm on these holidays. The report identifies the arrangement as a decision taken by AMC to improve convenience for citizens, but it does not provide a stated end date or indicate whether the schedule will be reviewed after implementation.

The move also places greater importance on consistent staffing, service availability and public communication across all seven zones. Residents seeking a particular service may need to confirm its availability and documentation requirements with the relevant civic centre before visiting, as the report does not list the full range of services or zone-wise contact details.

AMC’s new schedule changes the timing of in-person access without altering the nature of the services themselves. The immediate milestone is the start of seven-day operations at the seven zonal civic centres, with weekend service hours set at 9 am to 4.30 pm.
