Power Cuts Stall Work at Pune’s Kondhwa Sub Registrar Office

Repeated power cuts are disrupting document-registration work at Pune’s Kondhwa Sub Registrar Office, forcing citizens, women, property-registration parties and advocates to wait for hours even though battery-backup equipment is reportedly available at the facility but has not been connected.

The office, officially identified as Haveli Sub-Registrar Office No. 12, is located near Khadi Machine Chowk in Kondhwa. According to a report by Sakal, interruptions to the electricity supply have repeatedly brought office work to a halt, affecting people who visit the facility to complete time-sensitive registration procedures.

The disruption is being attributed not only to the power cuts but also to the failure to make the backup system operational. The required battery-backup equipment has reportedly been brought to the office several days ago. However, its installation and connection have not been completed, leaving the facility dependent on the regular electricity supply.

For citizens, the interruption can mean extended waiting and delays in completing document-registration work. The report said that parties and advocates must visit the office within scheduled working arrangements, while women and other citizens are also required to spend additional time waiting when the electricity supply fails. The issue has led to questions about why equipment already available at the office has not been put into service.

The registration office is also significant for the state’s administrative and revenue systems. The report described it as an office that generates revenue running into lakhs of rupees, while citizens continue to face basic service interruptions. In this context, the unavailable backup system has become a question of operational readiness as well as public convenience.

Advocate Ramchandra Sonkamble said that the registration process must be completed on time for citizens, women, advocates and the parties involved in property documentation. He said the repeated power failures interrupt work and urged the concerned department to connect the battery backup so that the inconvenience to visitors can be reduced.

Mangesh Khamkar, acting deputy district registrar for Pune, said he would immediately speak with the relevant officers and engineers to resolve the issue. He also said steps would be taken to ensure that citizens and parties visiting the office do not face inconvenience. The report did not specify a completion date for the backup installation or disclose the reason for the delay in connecting the equipment.
