Noida Elevated Road Repairs Trigger Long Evening Traffic Delays

Noida elevated road repairs caused major evening traffic disruption after the Noida Authority closed one side of the elevated road, leaving commuters travelling towards Ghaziabad and Greater Noida West facing delays of up to one-and-a-half hours.

The closure took place during the evening rush hour and was not preceded by public notice, according to a report by Millennium Post – Delhi. Office-goers were forced to look for alternative routes, while traffic also increased on roads beneath the elevated stretch.

Commuters said the disruption could have been managed more effectively if the authority had informed the public at least a day in advance. Advance notice, they said, would have allowed motorists to alter their travel plans or avoid the affected corridor during the peak period.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Syed Ali Abbas advised motorists travelling from Sector 61 towards Sector 15 to use the MP-2 road beneath the elevated road. From there, commuters can proceed via Gijhor Chowk and Sector 31/25 Chowk, according to the traffic advisory cited in the report.

Motorists travelling from Greater Noida West towards Sector 18 were advised to take the route through Sector 52, City Centre and Sector 37. The road below the elevated stretch was also available as an alternative, although police expected that route to experience congestion because of the diversion.

The repairs have also brought renewed attention to the condition of the elevated road. On September 15, 2026, a major structural failure resulted in a pothole measuring around 20 feet in length and 10 feet in depth on a section of the road. The incident prompted Noida Authority officials to begin a technical investigation into the cause of the failure.

The investigation report had not been submitted at the time of the report on the latest closure. That leaves the authority’s technical findings as a pending step in establishing what caused the earlier structural damage and whether further sections require examination.

The episode highlights the operational difficulty of carrying out urgent repairs on an elevated urban corridor that serves commuters travelling between Noida, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida West. With limited alternative routes and high evening traffic volumes, a closure on the elevated road quickly transfers pressure to surface roads and junctions below it.

For commuters, the immediate issue remains route availability and travel time. For the authority, the next steps are the completion of the repairs and submission of the technical investigation report into the September structural failure.
