Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast Signals Wet Weekend as IMD Warns States

The India Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall over Delhi-NCR on October 24 and 25 while warning of heavy to extremely heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several southern and northwestern states over the coming days.

Delhi-NCR may receive isolated to scattered rainfall during the weekend, as rainfall activity increases over parts of northwest India. Punjab and Haryana are also likely to experience isolated to scattered showers on October 24 and 25, according to the IMD forecast reported by the Times of India.

The forecast indicates a broader increase in rainfall activity from October 23. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand are among the areas expected to receive showers. The IMD has also forecast rainfall across parts of southern India, with isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall likely in Kerala between October 23 and 27.

Keralam and Mahe may receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 24 and 25, with heavy rainfall also forecast on October 23, 26 and 27. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected in Keralam and Mahe between October 23 and 24. Lakshadweep may also receive widespread rainfall, including isolated heavy showers on October 23.

The IMD has advised against fishing along the coasts of Keralam and Lakshadweep from October 23 to 25 because of the prevailing weather conditions. The warning covers a period when heavy rainfall and strong weather conditions are expected across parts of the southwest coast.

Tamil Nadu has been placed under a yellow alert in 17 districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Tiruchi, until October 23. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, with gusts of up to 60 kmph, are likely in parts of the state. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected between October 23 and 24.

In Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from October 23. South Interior Karnataka may see isolated heavy showers, while North Interior Karnataka may receive isolated to scattered rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, with gusts of up to 50 kmph, are also likely in parts of the state.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Andhra Pradesh on October 23, along with thunderstorms and strong winds. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema are among the areas likely to receive heavy showers.

The forecast places Delhi-NCR’s expected weekend rain within a larger weather system affecting parts of southern and northwestern India. The IMD’s next few days forecast continues to indicate heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Keralam through October 27, continued showers in Tamil Nadu through October 24 and increased rainfall activity across parts of northwest India on October 24 and 25.
