Hyderabad Water Supply Restored After Pipeline Valve Damage Near Nagole

Hyderabad water supply was restored to affected areas after the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board repaired a damaged air valve on the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase-II pipeline near Nagole Metro Station on Tuesday.

The valve, located about 20 feet from the main road near Nagole Metro Station pillar number 813, close to Uppal Bagayath, was damaged when a car crashed into its iron safety barricade at around 4 am. The collision severely damaged both the protective fence and the valve system, causing a major water leak.

According to a press release issued by the HMWSSB, officials from the transmission wing immediately stopped the relevant pumps and controlled the flow of water after the damage was reported. This was done to contain the leak and enable repair work on the pipeline infrastructure.

Officials and technical staff from the Transmission, Operations and Maintenance departments reached the site and mobilised machinery for the restoration. The repair work continued without interruption, with the damaged valve system being fixed within five hours, the board said.

The repair stopped the leakage and allowed the pipeline to be brought back into operation. HMWSSB subsequently restored drinking water supply to the areas that had been affected by the interruption.

The incident highlights the operational vulnerability of exposed pipeline components and their protective structures along busy urban roads. In this case, the air valve was positioned away from the main carriageway but remained vulnerable after a vehicle struck its safety barricade. The supplied report does not provide details on the vehicle involved, the extent of traffic disruption or whether any legal action followed the collision.

Air valves are used as part of pressurised water transmission systems, and damage to such equipment can require pumps to be stopped while leakage is controlled and repairs are carried out. The HMWSSB’s response involved coordination between its transmission, operations and maintenance teams, along with the use of machinery at the site.

The Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme is a key part of Hyderabad’s water-supply network. The latest disruption was linked to physical damage at a single valve installation near Nagole, rather than a reported failure of the broader pipeline. The board said supply resumed after the valve repair was completed.
