Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced a package of development projects for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies, including new bus services, water infrastructure, housing rights, healthcare facilities, drainage works and public institutions, according to a report by Dinamalar published on October 19.
The announcements cover parts of Chengalpattu and Tiruppur districts and include projects at both constituency and district levels. In Chengalpattu district, additional buses will be operated from all villages, while a detailed project report will be prepared for a new elevated check dam across the Palar river between Padalam and Uthirambakkam.
Madurantakam constituency is set to receive six procurement centres, each estimated to cost Rs 30 lakh, for a combined allocation of Rs 1.80 crore. A new government women’s arts and science college will be established at Achirapakkam at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. The government hospital in Madurantakam will receive a Rs 10 crore accident and emergency care unit.
The package also includes a tourism and recreation park at Madurantakam lake. A new hostel will be built for women working in the municipality, while an intellectual centre for educated young people will be established at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The report did not specify implementation dates for these projects.
In Tiruppur district, a new drinking-water scheme based on the Cauvery is to be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 1,439 crore. The scale of the proposal makes it the largest project mentioned in the package and places water supply alongside transport and public services as a central development priority for the region.
For Dharapuram constituency, the government has announced 2,700 free house-site pattas for people without homes. The announcement also includes desilting and removal of accumulated soil from irrigation channels through 159 works costing Rs 10 crore. A separate 271-kilometre programme for desilting canals and channels is also expected to be taken up.
Solid-waste management and storm-water drainage improvement works will be carried out at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Mulanur will receive a new fire and rescue services station. In Dharapuram municipality, an overhead water tank will be built for Rs 6 crore and streetlights will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh.
The project list links several layers of local administration: municipal services, irrigation management, emergency response, public healthcare, higher education, water supply and housing access. However, the announcement, as reported, provides limited information on tender schedules, land availability, funding releases, construction agencies or completion deadlines.
The next steps identified in the report include preparation of the detailed project report for the Palar check dam and the commencement of the announced desilting, drainage, water-supply, housing and public-facility works. Further implementation details will be required to establish timelines for each project.
