The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully repaired a cave-in in the Vasna area, incurring a cost of Rs 26.87 lakh. This urgent repair was necessitated by a breakdown in a 1600mm diameter drainage line located near the APMC metro station.
AMC officials reported that the repair work was completed at 18% less than the initial estimated cost. This efficient management reflects the corporation’s commitment to maintaining essential infrastructure while optimising expenditure. In addition to the repairs at Vasna, AMC has issued tenders for the refurbishment of several manholes within the drainage lines in the Ambawadi area of Navrangpura. These proactive measures aim to address existing issues before they escalate into more significant problems. The repairs for the breakdown were executed at a remarkable 27% below the estimated cost of Rs 36.36 lakh. Such cost efficiencies are crucial as they allow the AMC to allocate resources effectively across various projects, ensuring timely maintenance of the city’s infrastructure.
The water and sewerage committee will discuss proposals for reporting these repair works in its upcoming meeting on September 25. The effective handling of the cave-in incident not only mitigates immediate disruptions but also sets a precedent for future infrastructure management initiatives in Ahmedabad.
