Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Chennai Metro journey on October 11 became a platform for more than 15 startup founders to present ideas on infrastructure monitoring, space technology, aviation and other sectors, according to a report by Dinamalar. The interaction took place during the Prime Minister’s visit to Chennai, when he began a metro journey between Porur and Poonamallee alongside Chief Minister Vijay.
The startup founders used the journey to explain projects and technologies they said could support new initiatives in Tamil Nadu. Among the proposals discussed was the use of satellite-based assessments to track construction work, monitor progress and identify risks.
Vignesh Kandhasamy, chief executive officer of one of the participating startups, said the company explained how its platform could use satellite-based assessments to monitor construction activity. The system, he said, could track the progress of projects and identify potential risks during implementation.
According to Kandhasamy, the Prime Minister asked whether the technology could also be used to monitor roads and bridges. The startup representatives replied that it could. They also discussed assessments of marshland forests and work undertaken with the Tamil Nadu government on monitoring lakes.
The discussion places digital monitoring technologies in the context of large public infrastructure projects, where authorities must track progress across multiple sites and identify risks during construction. The report, however, does not provide details about any new government contract, formal adoption decision or implementation timeline arising from the interaction.
Other founders presented proposals from sectors beyond conventional construction technology. Sasindhar Marimuthu, the chief executive officer of another company, said discussions focused on strengthening India’s aviation ecosystem and increasing the domestic share of the country’s aviation sector.
Ramesh Kumar, co-founder and chief executive officer of another company, spoke about the firm’s space activities. He said the company had successfully placed a nanosatellite into orbit in July using its Vikram-1 rocket. He also said the company had attempted an orbital launch from Brazil using a South Korean rocket and showed the Prime Minister photographs and details from that effort.
The interaction was organised with time allocated for the executives of each startup to speak to the Prime Minister. Officials cited in the report said Modi listened to the companies’ proposals and offered suggestions about their projects. The Prime Minister also assured the founders that the Union government would continue to support growing sectors, including the space industry.
The meeting connected Chennai’s expanding metro and infrastructure network with a broader set of technology applications, including satellite observation, environmental monitoring and project oversight. The source report does not state whether the ideas discussed will move into a formal pilot, procurement process or institutional partnership. Any such next steps would require separate announcements from the relevant government departments or agencies.
