Uppal Stadium Road Widening Gets Push, 0.78 Acres Identified

The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has proposed widening Uppal Stadium Road to 120 feet to ease congestion and improve traffic flow on the route leading to the stadium, with officials identifying about 0.78 acres of Survey of India land for the project.

MMC Commissioner and officials from the Survey of India, along with the corporation’s engineering and town planning departments, conducted a joint inspection on Monday. The inspection examined the land and existing obstructions affecting the proposed widening work.

The identified land includes portions occupied by compound walls and sheds belonging to Kendriya Vidyalaya. The Commissioner directed officials to examine compensation for the land acquisition under applicable regulations and initiate the required action.

The proposal comes as Uppal Stadium Road remains congested, particularly on the stretch serving the stadium and surrounding areas. The corporation said widening the road is intended to improve traffic management and reduce delays for vehicles using the corridor.

Officials were also directed to remove temporary barricading sheets at the NSL buildings, which the corporation said were obstructing the widening work. The Chief City Planner was asked to take up the removal of the barricading sheets.

The inspection brought together the agencies responsible for the land, road engineering and planning aspects of the project. Their coordination will be required for land acquisition, compensation and execution of the road-widening work.

The Commissioner directed the departments concerned to expedite the process. According to the corporation, completion of the project would facilitate smoother vehicular movement in the area, although the proposal still involves land acquisition and compensation-related steps before the widening can proceed.
