Gensol Engineering Ltd. has secured a landmark project to establish India’s first Green Hydrogen Valley in Pune, marking a significant leap forward in the nation’s green energy ambitions. Announced on September 11, this development represents a pivotal step in advancing sustainable energy solutions within the country.
The project will be executed in partnership with Matrix Gas & Renewables, a key player in the green hydrogen sector. Matrix will be responsible for constructing and operating a state-of-the-art green hydrogen production plant, following a Build Own and Operate (BOO) model. The plant is designed to cater specifically to the specialty chemical sector, with a long-term offtake agreement spanning 20 years. This collaboration was selected through a competitive tender process, where Gensol and Matrix emerged as the top bidders based on both technical and commercial criteria.
Facilitated by the National Chemicals Laboratory (NCL) in Pune, the Green Hydrogen Valley will serve as a hub for green hydrogen generation, research, and development. The initiative aims to pioneer innovative green hydrogen generation technologies and explore their applications across various industrial sectors. According to Gensol’s Managing Director, the project will provide continuous green hydrogen supply to the specialty chemical sector, thereby fostering the growth of the green hydrogen economy in India. This strategic move aligns with broader environmental and sustainability goals, positioning India as a frontrunner in green energy technologies. The collaboration between Gensol and Matrix, both under common promoters, will extend beyond this project. Future initiatives are expected to include advancements in Green Steel and Green Ammonia, further contributing to the development of a sustainable hydrogen
