Auto Nagar Waste Dumping Triggers Cleanup and Enforcement Drive

Residents of colonies around Auto Nagar in Mansoorabad have alleged that garbage, chemical waste and animal carcasses are being dumped in open areas at night, prompting local officials to promise a cleanup, increased surveillance and action against those responsible.

LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy and local pollution control board officer Venkata Narasiah visited the area on Friday and interacted with residents. The residents said the dumping had caused a foul smell and created health hazards near residential neighbourhoods. They also urged the authorities to deploy pumps to remove stagnant water.

The MLA said officials from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would clear the stagnant sewage water in the area. He also said strict action would be taken against people allegedly dumping animal carcasses and other waste materials in the open.

The complaints extend beyond municipal garbage. According to the report, inspections were being conducted at chemical and fertiliser godowns and mechanical sheds in the Auto Nagar industrial area. The MLA said legal action would be taken against units discharging waste and chemicals into drainage lines.

The reported dumping has brought together two linked urban management concerns: the handling of waste from an industrial area and the ability of local drainage systems to prevent stagnant water from affecting nearby colonies. Residents have asked for stronger surveillance to identify vehicles or establishments using open areas for unauthorised disposal.

The MLA said a watchman had been appointed in the area and that sewage treatment plants had been constructed in the past. He also said a storm-water drain had been built at a cost of Rs 6 crore. The visit and the promised inspections are intended to address whether existing infrastructure is being maintained and whether commercial establishments are complying with waste-disposal requirements.

Former corporators Vithal Reddy, Tanguturi Nagaraju and Jakkidi Raghuveer Reddy, along with presidents of the affected colonies, were present during the interaction. The next steps announced by the authorities are the removal of stagnant sewage water, inspections of industrial and commercial premises, surveillance of dumping locations and legal action where violations are established.
