Delhi weather tomorrow is likely to bring rain, thunderstorms, lightning and winds of up to 50 kmph, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Maharashtra’s coastal Konkan belt remain under a heatwave warning until October 12, according to the India Meteorological Department’s latest forecast.
The weather department attributed the conditions over Delhi and nearby areas to a western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining areas, along with an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and northwestern Uttar Pradesh. Several parts of Delhi are expected to receive rainfall on Sunday, October 11, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
The forecast also covers several other urban and rural regions. Parts of southern India, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema, may experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph, with gusts of up to 60 kmph through October 12. Strong surface winds are also expected in parts of these areas.
In Maharashtra, the IMD has issued a heatwave warning for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the coastal Konkan belt until October 12. Heatwave conditions are likely at isolated places in south Konkan, while hot and humid conditions may prevail at isolated locations in north Konkan. The MMR is an urban agglomeration covering nine municipal corporations across Mumbai and the adjoining districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
The IMD said conditions in Maharashtra are expected to normalise on Sunday and Monday, October 11 and 12, with green warnings returning across the state. A green warning indicates that no adverse weather action is required. However, maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius in some parts of Maharashtra over the next 48 hours, followed by a further increase of 1-3 degrees Celsius. Parts of interior Maharashtra are expected to record maximum temperatures of 37-39 degrees Celsius on October 10.
Rain and thunderstorms are also forecast in several northern, central and northeastern regions. West Uttar Pradesh may receive showers on October 11. Uttarakhand is likely to see isolated to scattered rainfall between October 11 and 14, with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph. Himachal Pradesh may receive isolated to scattered rainfall on October 13 and 14, while parts of Rajasthan are expected to see showers and thunderstorms between October 11 and 12.
Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning. Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive rainfall on October 11, followed by another spell on October 13 and 14. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may see isolated to scattered rainfall between October 11 and 14.
The IMD also forecast isolated to scattered rainfall in east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely over parts of east Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. In Jharkhand, the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw over the next four days after already retreating from several northwestern and central districts. The state has recorded a rainfall deficit of 2%, according to the IMD.
The forecast further covers coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The IMD’s next few days forecast indicates continued rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several regions, alongside the expected monsoon withdrawal from Jharkhand.
