Katraj PMPML Bus Stop May Move Again as Construction Chokes Junction

Pune traffic police have proposed shifting the main PMPML bus stop at Katraj Chowk by another kilometre towards Wonder City, a move that could increase walking distances for passengers using the busy interchange. The proposal comes as metro and flyover construction continues to narrow road space and disrupt traffic arrangements at the junction.

The bus stop has already been relocated three times in the past two months, according to a report by Pune Mirror. If the latest proposal is implemented, commuters will have to travel farther from Katraj Chowk towards the bypass highway to board PMPML buses.

Katraj Chowk functions as a key interchange for passengers changing routes and travelling to different parts of Pune. Daily commuters told the newspaper that they had adjusted to repeated changes in bus-stop locations and the difficulties created by construction, but expressed concern that another relocation would make access more difficult.

Traffic police officials have proposed moving buses away from the crowded intersection to manage congestion while construction work continues. Metro-related work and the construction of the proposed flyover have forced traffic diversions, reduced the space available for buses to stop safely and made passenger movement more difficult.

The junction is also dealing with increased activity from shared autorickshaws. The space previously used as the main PMPML bus stop has largely been occupied by shared autorickshaws, adding to the challenge of managing buses, private vehicles and pedestrians in the same area.

The proposed shift reflects the immediate operational conflict at Katraj Chowk: construction agencies require working space, traffic police need to keep vehicles moving, and PMPML passengers need a stop that remains accessible from the interchange. For commuters, the practical effect of the proposal will depend on the final location and how safely passengers can walk between Katraj Chowk and the relocated boarding point.

The traffic police proposal is under consideration as construction activity continues. No final implementation date or confirmed revised stop location was provided in the report.
