WR Announces 10-Hour Block Affecting 52 Local Trains

Mumbai is set to experience significant travel disruptions due to a 10-hour traffic block announced by the Western Railway (WR) for the construction of the new 6th line between Goregaon and Kandivali. The traffic block will begin at midnight on September 7, 2024, and continue until 10:00 AM on September 8, 2024. This major infrastructure upgrade will impact both the Up and Down Slow lines, as well as the Down Fast line, resulting in extensive changes to local train services.

During this period, WR has announced the cancellation of 52 local train services, while 18 others will experience partial cancellations. The alterations are part of the extensive work to enhance railway capacity and efficiency on the busy suburban network. The Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railways, provided details on how services will be affected. All UP Slow line trains will be rerouted onto the UP Fast line between Borivali and Goregaon. Similarly, Down Slow line trains will operate on the Down Fast line from Andheri to Goregaon, with these trains being managed from Platform No. 7 at Goregaon station. Furthermore, the Down Slow line trains between Goregaon and Borivali will use the 5th line.

Due to platform constraints, these trains will not stop at Ram Mandir, Malad, and Kandivali stations. Some Churchgate-Borivali Slow train services will also be short-terminated and reversed from Goregaon. Passengers should also anticipate delays for Mail and Express trains on both Up and Down directions, with potential delays of approximately 10 to 20 minutes during the block period. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time to accommodate these disruptions. The Western Railway’s initiative to expand the rail infrastructure is expected to ease congestion and improve service quality in the long term, though it will necessitate temporary adjustments in travel plans.
