Bengaluru’s Ejipura flyover is expected to open to traffic by the end of December, with about 80% of the 5.45-km project now complete after nearly a decade of delays, officials cited by Prajavani reported. The main flyover will connect Central Sadan Junction to Ejipura Signal through Sony World Junction.
The project is currently in its final construction phase. Ramp work has been completed, while installation of crash barriers is under way. The casting of the precast segments, described as a key stage of the project, has also been completed. Installation of seven spans along the flyover remains pending.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority is also completing ramps intended to improve access to and exit from the flyover. These include connections towards Indiranagar and Madiwala, according to officials quoted in the report. The main structure is expected to carry traffic by December-end, although some associated works may continue beyond that deadline.
The project has been delayed by contractual and land-related obstacles. Simplex Infrastructures Limited, the earlier contractor, achieved 42.80% physical progress before its contract was cancelled in March 2022 on a risk-and-cost basis, following directions from the Karnataka High Court. In November 2023, the work was assigned to BSCPL Infrastructure Private Limited.
Land acquisition near St John’s Hospital had emerged as a major barrier to completing the flyover. Officials said BTM Layout MLA and minister Ramalinga Reddy held repeated meetings with the hospital administration and succeeded in securing cooperation in the public interest. Work on this section began in February 2026.
The project’s schedule has already shifted once this year. Chief engineer Raghavendra Prasad had said in May that the flyover would be opened by the end of October 2026. The latest report indicates that the October deadline is unlikely to be met, leading to the revised December target for the main flyover.
Additional up-ramps from Sarjapur Road and St John’s Hospital Road have been added to the project. Pillars have been built where space is available, but land acquisition for the remaining work has not been completed. Although the hospital administration has reportedly agreed to the proposal, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has not yet issued the required transferable development rights, citing technical reasons. Officials cited in the report said this part of the work could require another year, even as traffic on the main flyover is targeted to begin by December-end.
