Delhi Traffic Advisory: Avoid Rajghat Roads from 1 pm to 4 pm

The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to avoid the Rajghat–Kisan Ghat Road and surrounding routes between 1 pm and 4 pm on 8 October as opposition MPs are scheduled to travel to Rajghat after lunch, with a protest-related gathering expected in the area.

The advisory covers the third day of the INDIA alliance’s demonstration. Traffic police said the proposed sit-in on Kisan Ghat Road could lead to congestion on the route and nearby roads during the afternoon period. Commuters have been asked to avoid the affected stretch unless travel is necessary and to plan their journeys in advance.

The traffic disruption is expected to affect movement around Rajghat and Kisan Ghat, two centrally located areas connected to important roads in the city. The advisory comes as the opposition group has announced its intention to proceed to Rajghat after lunch, prompting the traffic authorities to prepare for increased vehicle movement, roadside restrictions and possible crowd-related delays.

As an alternative, commuters may use the Jawaharlal Nehru Marg–Minto Road–Ajmeri Gate route, according to the traffic advisory. Travellers using the alternative corridor have also been urged to allow additional time for their journeys, as traffic may build up on adjoining roads when vehicles are diverted from the Rajghat–Kisan Ghat stretch.

The traffic police has appealed to motorists to follow instructions issued by personnel deployed in the area and to park vehicles only in designated parking spaces. The department has also asked commuters to use public transport where possible to reduce pressure on roads during the demonstration window.

The advisory is particularly relevant for people travelling through central Delhi during the afternoon, including office commuters, commercial-vehicle operators and visitors heading towards the riverfront and nearby government and memorial precincts. Travellers have been advised to check the latest traffic instructions before leaving and to keep extra time for route changes.

The Delhi Police has also asked residents to report any suspicious or unusual object or person immediately by calling 112. Traffic arrangements will remain focused on managing movement around the proposed demonstration and maintaining access through the designated alternative routes during the advisory period.
